How to apply to Study in U.S Universities from Canada
As a citizen of Canadian, you are encouraged to study abroad in countries like the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and of course Canada. Studying in the UK or Australia is a great option for Canadian students looking to study in a very different education system and very different geographic conditions; however, the number one destination for international students from Canada looking to study abroad is the United States of America. Applying to study at U.S. universities while you are in Canada can be a complicated process for many Canadian international students, here you will find a step-by-step process on how to begin your application for a U.S university while you are in Canada and how we can help you with the entire process.
Step One / Research
As a citizen of Canadian, the first thing you need to do is decide which major or degree you wish to study, international students from Canada have a great interest in majors in nursing, law, and as well as engineering. Deciding which major you wish to study is very important because not all the universities in the USA offer the same majors and some universities do not offer engineering or technology programs. Finding the universities that offer the degree you want to study can be complicated which is why we created a tool that will allow you to find the university that offers the program you wish to study.
As an international student from Canada chances are that you have a friend or know a friend that is studying at a university in the USA, your friends can be a great resource of information and they can provide you with valuable information. Learning about their mistakes, their recommendations, and difference in cultures will have a positive in choosing the location or university you wish to study while you are in the United States of America. While hearing from a friend is important, understand that every student is different and you need to decide ultimately what you think is the best option for you.
Step Two / Speak with an EduBookings.com Advisor
Once you have a list of majors, cities, or preferences of the university you want to study in the USA, it is time to book a free online appointment with one of our education advisors. Our education advisors have been working with international students from Canada for many years and we have helped hundreds of international students from Canada with the application process to study at universities in the USA. The advisor will be able to answer all your questions, make recommendations, look at all your academic background and even begin the application process. The education system in Canada is very similar to the U.S system, but there are some differences and it is for this reason it is always a good idea to speak with an education advisor or an education agency.
Meeting with one of our advisors is quite easy and you can do so from the comfort of your home, all you need is a computer with internet that has a microphone like a laptop and you will be able to connect with one of our advisors when is most convenient for you, from the comfort of you home. It is also a good idea to have copies of your academic transcripts, and given that you are a citizen of Canada, you do not need any English proficiency exams which are usually required for other international students, as well as your resume if you are applying for a master’s degree.
Step Three / Submit your application
Once you and your Edubookings advisor have decided on a university in the USA and the degree program you want to study, you will need to book another online meeting to begin your application process. One of the reasons why so many international students from all over the world as well as international students from Canada love to work with EduBookings.com is our application system. As opposed to you having to submit your application and ask for help with the process, at EduBookings.com we do the entire process for you. Step Four / Accept your university offer
Once we submit your applications to the different universities in the USA, you will begin to get updates on your EduBookings account or your Bookie account as the application process moves forward. It is important that you read and check your account constantly and check all the notifications you receive on your phone via the mobile app. Once the application process is completed and we have received all the decisions from the different universities, you receive your acceptance letters, this is when it is time to choose which university you want to attend, this is a great opportunity to schedule another appointment with an Edubookings academic advisor, so they can answer any final questions you may have and help you choose from the universities you have been accepted in the USA. As a student from Canada, the academic advisor will focus on helping you choose the university that will accommodate your priorities, also recommend the ones we have helped secure the biggest academic scholarships, and even begin your confirmation process.
As part of your confirmation process, most universities in the USA will require a tuition deposit payment; this payment can vary anywhere from 300 dollars to 2000 dollars and it really varies depending on the university. If you or your Canadian family will be paying for your education in the USA, you will need to pay this deposit to the university you have chosen for your university studies. Once this part of the process is done, the university will issue your I-20 form, so we can begin your student visa process.
Step Five / Apply for a Student Visa
Once you receive your I-20 form in the mail or via email, you are now ready to begin your student visa application and become an international student. As a Canadian citizen, you are not required to get a student visa, you are allowed to begin your studies in the USA with your Canadian passport and the I-20 form from the university. You will need to pay your SEVIS Fee, you will need to have your I-20 form with you since all of the information needed to pay your SEVIS Fee is on your I-20 form. All you need to do is click on this link to submit your SEVIS Fee payment. Once you pay for your SEVIS Fee, make sure you print your receipt and keep it along with your I-20 form.
