For undergraduates, our Honors College offers challenging coursework, opportunities for original research, and engaging programs that stimulate a community of especially motivated, developing scholars. Our Study Abroad programs will immerse you in a new culture in China, Spain, Russia, the Netherlands, or another country. And our special degree programs give you the opportunity to graduate with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree on an accelerated path.

A wide range of combined-degree programs allow you to earn two advanced degrees simultaneously. Options include the MBA/JD degree in partnership with Albany Law School, the MPA/JD program, and the MD/MPH degree in partnership with Albany Medical College.
Junior and senior high-school students can take college-level courses from 23 academic departments through the University’s precollegiate programs.

Listed on the Top 10 Most beautiful Colleges in the U.S by Thrillist.com, UAlbany’s main campus was designed in 1961-62 by renowned American architect Edward Durell Stone. The campus reflects Stone’s signature style of bold unified design, expressed by its towers, domes, fountains, soaring colonnades and sweeping canopy. The result is dramatically different from the dispersed buildings and disparate architectural styles of most traditional university campuses.

A consistent flow of new construction has expanded the Uptown Campus in the last decade, adding new science and art facilities and administration building. A new home for the School of Business, awarded a LEED gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council, opened in the fall of 2013. Expansion and major renovations have completely refurbished the University’s Entry Plaza, main fountain, 20-story Carillon and the Campus Center.

The Uptown Campus also features the Performing Arts Center, boasting several theaters, recital halls, and rehearsal instructional space; the University Art Museum, one of the finest regional museums in the Northeast; and the New York State Writers Institute, a broad educational base for readers and writing students promoting the literary arts. Other special facilities on the Uptown Campus include a National Weather Service meteorological laboratory, a linear accelerator for physics research, and a cutting-edge data center that supports high-performance computing and networking. The hub of student activity is the Campus Center, which includes lounges, meeting and dining rooms, a ballroom, a cafeteria, banking facilities, a convenience store, a Barnes & Noble bookstore, and a variety of both fast-food and healthy food options, all great assets when studying abroad.

Each of four residence quads on the Uptown Campus house approximately 1,200 students and include eight, three-story halls and a 23-story tower. Each quad includes lounges and recreational areas and three quads contain dining facilities. Nearby Freedom Apartments has apartment-style living, and Empire Commons provides single-room apartment-style living for 1,200 students. Liberty Terrace, an architecturally award-winning, environmentally friendly living complex, provides another 500 apartment-style beds. Housing is also available on Alumni Quad, located near the Downtown Campus.

Outdoor recreational facilities include lighted tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, and several multipurpose playing and intramural areas including Alumni Turf Field, home to UAlbany’s field hockey team. John Fallon Field, dedicated to UAlbany men’s and women’s lacrosse, has seating capacity of 2,500. The 8,500-seat Tom and Mary Casey Stadium, home to football and men’s and women’s soccer, opened in the fall of 2013. The following year, UAlbany opened the new home venue for the school’s championship track and field program. It features a nine-lane track surface, and complete reconditioning of the natural turf infield for field events.

Indoor athletic facilities are dominated by the SEFCU Arena. With an arena seating capacity of nearly 4,800, the facility is home to NCAA Division I Great Dane basketball, and also houses a running track, a modern fitness center, a fully equipped athletic training complex with whirlpools and other rehabilitative equipment, two main locker rooms and several smaller team locker rooms. All facilities are handicapped accessible and have designated seating areas for handicapped spectators. The Physical Education Center includes a pool, locker rooms, weight and wrestling rooms, a dance studio, and basketball, handball and squash courts.

The Office of Campus Recreation provides students with many opportunities to be active and involved. A variety of intramural and club sports are available. An indoor Aquatic Center provides a place for recreational lap swimming and swim lessons. Group exercise classes are available for every interest, from Zumba to Yoga. Outdoor pursuits available through Campus Recreation include a Kayaking Tour and White-Water Rafting trips. A Low Ropes Challenge Course is available to help you build team spirit in a fun and safe environment.

For students looking for an adventure away from the University environment, UAlbany’s Student Association runs Camp Dippikill, an 850 acre wilderness retreat facility. Cabins and campsites are open to reservations from undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni faculty and staff.

The Downtown Campus, located at 135 Western Avenue in Albany, is a classic Georgian-style complex that served from 1909-66 as the main campus. Recently renovated, it houses the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, the School of Criminal Justice, the School of Social Welfare and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

The Health Sciences Campus, a former pharmaceutical complex purchased in 1996 and located at One University Place in Rensselaer, is one of the region’s booming bioscience research and high-tech centers. Its academic anchor is the School of Public Health, and its research facilities include the Cancer Research Center, home to the Gen*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics, and the Center for Functional Genomics.

The University at Albany is dedicating to supporting your educational pursuits and personal growth by providing tools necessary to succeed in and out of the classroom. From Student Health Services to career planning, disability resources and financial services, the University at Albany provides students with the assistance they need to start college and be successful.

The Campus Center serves as the hub of student life at UAlbany, complete with a full-service food court, meeting space, the University Bookstore and more. The Student Financial Center provides students and families with a one-stop location to deal with issues related to Financial Aid, billing, and student financial accounts.

UAlbany also provides students with academic enrichment support, advisement and support services, and the Interfaith Center for religious services. Support is also available through the Educational Opportunities Program.

When you study abroad, feeling safe is a priority. In addition to operating Student Health Services, UAlbany hosts its own branch of the New York State police, the University Police Department, which is committed to the safety and well-being of students and the entire campus community. The University also maintains an Office of Personal Safety & Off Campus Affairs that helps promote the safety of students, faculty and staff as well as relations with the larger community.

For the safety and wellbeing of students, UAlbany provides counselling services, including an award-winning peer-assistance program, the Advocacy Center for Sexual Violence, and fitness and wellness centers. UAlbany also provides emergency and weather-related information and preparedness updates to students via an alert system.

Among its most notable safety features, UAlbany has a Blue Light Telephone system all around the campus grounds, from parking lots, residence halls, the academic podium and all along the roadways. Easily recognizable, the phones provide direct access to UPD dispatchers whenever the need arises.
